South Korea is one of Asia’s miracle nations. Emerging from a devastating civil war in 1953 South Korea was poor & underdeveloped ranking as one of the 10 poorest nations on earth. Undeterred the Korean people set about building a modern, multi-party democracy based on an economic model of free enterprise. This determination has seen South Korea grow into a major global economy. Today Korean brands like Samsung, Hyundai, LG, Kia, and Daewoo dominate world markets.

Korea has evolved in one generation into a modern, wealthy nation. Korean people have passionately embraced modern technology while maintaining a solid foundation of ‘old world’ values deeply rooted in a cultural history that dates back over 4,000 years. With a strong work ethic and cohesive social structure Korean’s get things done with an efficiency that other nations can only envy.

With very few natural resources Korea has to import almost all of it’s raw materials. These are processed into manufactured goods that are marketed and exported as a wide range of innovative products from mobile phones to super tankers. As the lions share of this trade is with English speaking nations around the world there is a pressing need in the Korean education system for each generation to be competent English speakers in order to maintain and expand Korea’s international trade. For this reason the Korean government began hiring EFL teachers in the early 1990’s to teach English in their schools.
